We went with our 10-year old kid. We were all first time surfers, it was a Sat so the group was large (about 18 people) with 2 instructors. The 2-hour lesson included the time to be allocated a surfing board, to walk from the shop to the beach, the time it took to explain for the safety instructions, the demonstration on how to surf on the shore, the actual time to practice in the sea, the demonstration on the shore on how to stand up on the surfing board, the actual time to practice in the sea on the standing part, and lastly the time to walk back to the shop from the beach. So you can imagine how much time you could really practice in the sea (my guess is about 30 mins in total that you were in the sea). Also, since it was a large group, you were basically on your own once you brought your surfing board into the sea. The instructors were too busy to help each of us. The surfing board was too heavy for my daughter to carry into the sea on her own and she would not have the right skills without some help from the instructor. I had to help her to drag the surfing board into the sea and I myself also struggled to position the surfing board. And the instructors did not have the time to help out small kids like my daughter. However, having said that, the instructors were friendly and helpful, but there was only so much that they could do with a large group of people. I think if one is to at least to learn the basic skills of surfing in a 2-hour lesson, the size of the group should be limited to a maximum of 8 with 2 instructors to make the lesson meaningful.
